The Phaidon Archive of Graphic Design

Recently I came across a quite hefty, 27.6 pound book, "The Phaidon Archive of Graphic Design" published in 2012. I'm not so sure if this is actually a book because it's a box full of loose pages, precisely a thousand of them.

"The book features over 500 of the most iconic graphic designs from the beginnings of mechanical reproduction to the present day. Arranged in chronological order, the designs are accompanied by texts and illustrated with a range of imagery - including rarely seen historical, contextual and archival material - to shed light on their origin and development."

I was pleasantly surprised to see that one of the 1000 pages was dedicated to my work from when I was the art director of the New York Times OP-ED pages in 1992-1993.

Judi Harvest "Renature" Brochure

For New York artist, Judi Harvest, and her project 'Renature' we created an engaging brochure with multiple gate folds, to show complexity of her work.

Judi paints, creates glass vessels and sculptures.
In collaboration with the Bees Without Borders organization and the New York City Beekeepers Association, as an art project she created a garden and beehives in Murano, Venice, Italy and on the roof of her building in New York City, where she produced honey.

Final product of this project is not only honey, but also amazing looking garden.

Opening of Sarajevo 100 Poster Show

On Tuesday, June 17, 2014 was the opening of Sarajevo 100 at the City Gallery Collegium artisticum. International invitational poster action that includes over 200 posters and multimedia works of graphic designers from 37 countries. Show was open by poster legend, Paul Davis, picture below with organizer of the show, Cedomir Kostovic.

More pictures from opening night can be seen here.

Milton Glaser and I, among other artists, were invited to create posters. Milton came up with the idea for each of us to create posters which work side by side together, "meeting" each other. We divided the letters of the word Sarajevo. Milton got A, J, V and O and I got the letters R, A and E. We split the letter S.

With a little back and forth between us, we managed to match the posters in color and looks.
Below you can see Milton's poster, my poster and one possible poster combination.

World War 3

'World War 3 Illustrated: 1979-2014' has selections of the best compilations done for World War 3 Illustrated, including mine, edited by Peter Kuper and Seth Tobocman.
"Founded in 1979 by Seth Tobocman and Peter Kuper, World War 3 Illustrated is a collective of first-time and professional artists who use confrontational comics to shine a little reality on the fantasy world of the American kleptocracy. This full-color retrospective exhibition is arranged thematically, and includes topic of housing rights, feminism, the environment, religion, police brutality, globalization, and depictions of conflicts from the Middle East to the Midwest. World War 3 Illustrated also illuminates the war we wage on each other—and sometimes the one taking place in our own minds."

In 2003 I was invited to contribute my illustration, "Dog of War"  to World War 3 Illustrated magazine for the cover of issue #34: "Taking Liberties".
